North Central West Virginia Joining Community Forces Continues with the Brown Bags for Vets Program

The Brown Bags for Vets program will continue this year thanks to the generous donations from West Virginia communities. The care 
for our veterans, military service members and their families has always had a special place in the heart of our great state.

The interest in contributing to the Brown Bags for Vets has even touched the hearts of the elementary school students from Sutton Elementary School. As their December project, they donated more than 250 bags to our veterans. The joy on their faces as they displayed their patriotic concern was indeed impressive at the assembly they held to honor our veterans and donate needed food items.
A sparked interest from the local community has also expanded this effort to help with this project. The Brown Bags for Vets program consists of food items that are distributed to those veterans who travel to Pittsburg for medical procedures that usually require fasting. Because there is little time before they have to board the van back to Clarksburg, they need to eat. This meets that need.
These brown bags are also distributed to the hospice department of the VA hospital, the Clarksburg Mission’s Veterans program, the Clarksburg Housing Authority and the Mustard Seed who work in serving our veterans.
This effort is one of the focus areas of the North Central WV Joining Community Forces (NCWV JCF) organization to serve military families and veterans.
“The Brown Bags for Vets program is so helpful to the veterans and greatly appreciated,” said Chuck Hall of the Clarksburg Mission’s Veterans Program.
Something as simple as these brown bags packed with such items as lunch-size tuna salad, chicken salad, peanuts, crackers, snack bars, and water make such a difference to those veterans who receive them.
