Previous "BOLO" out for Vehicle Believed to be Involved in Friday Hit and Run Accident on Main Street

After nearly seven hours on the job, Mon Power replaced a utility pole that was plowed down by a motorist Friday afternoon.

Bridgeport Police Officer J.D. Manson said Main Street – which shut down around 2:30 p.m. – reopened around 9 p.m.

The hit-and-run incident happened at 2:24 p.m. Friday just in front of Main Street Fitness and Winnie’s Juice Bar, across the street from the Davis Street intersection. The motorist, who, according to witnesses was traveling west on Main Street, did not stop after the impact.

“The investigation is still ongoing, but we do have a suspect in mind,” Manson said. “The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, hit a city lamp post, utility pole and kept driving.”

Witnesses were able to provide enough information that Bridgeport Police not only believe they know the vehicle they are looking for, but it was possibly involved in a previous incident.

“There was a previous BOLO (be on the lookout) for that vehicle earlier,” Manson said.

The utility pole was snapped at the base and tangled in power lines. About 1100 Mon Power customers were left without power, most of those restored within a few hours. Both lanes of Main Street traffic – between Center and Third streets - were shut down during the repair work. Motorists were re-routed across Philadelphia Avenue, creating a bumper-to-bumper situation for several hours.

Chad Nicholson, line supervisor with Mon Power, said the work was labor intensive.

“We basically had to replace everything and that’s been hard to deal with here as we are dealing with concrete and utilities under the ground,” he said.

There was also some damage to the exterior of Winnie’s Juice Bar.
