The former Toys “R” Us location at the foot of the Meadowbrook Mall may currently be home to a Halloween store, but that will soon end. And for those wondering, there’s been nothing official as to what will be next at the property that is not part of the property owned by the Meadowbrook Mall.

 

The good news is that there’s interest. For the first time since the Cafaro Company – the owners of the mall – have said they would review the possibility of acquiring the building, another piece of information was released.

 

During last Monday’s meeting of the Bridgeport Development Authority, Director Andre Kerr told members that she has been in contact with a developer about the property. Kerr said it was more than casual interest, but stopped providing additional information at that point.

 

“I had someone call who said they are talking to multiple people about various things that could be put into that location,” said Kerr. “The conversation focused on how the property is zoned and the variety of things that could go into that building.”

 

Kerr would not divulge whether it was retail, a restaurant, a grocery store or even something on the residential or service industry front. She did say the individual contacting her was an attorney representing a group of individuals interested in leasing the property. And it wasn't for a seasonal busines such as the Halloween store in place.

 

There could be other interest as well. This call fielded by the city was to answer questions regarding the zoning, which is how Kerr learned of the interest.

 

Kerr said it was certainly possible and highly likely there have been other inquiries as well about the building that sits just off of the heavily traveled Interstate 79 intersection with Johnson Avenue. 

 

The building and property are owned by Tru 2005 Re I, LLC. True is a subsidiary Toys “R” Us and their contact number directs individuals with questions about properties to contact another number. That means inquiries are being field, but the status of those are unknown.
