Short Meeting on Tap for Bridgeport City Council's First November Session

By Julie Perine on November 08, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Pending a report by Mayor Andy Lang and/or City Manager Randy Wetmore – and comments by any members of the public who may show up to speak – Tuesday's Bridgeport City Council meeting could be the quickest to date.

The only item of business on the agenda is to consider and act on approving a contract with Thomas ProTurf in the amount of $12,240 to laser grade four baseball infields at the Recreation Complex.

“With all the local play plus tournament play and Fairmont State using our fields, they get a lot of use,” said Parks and Recreation Director Joe Shuttleworth. “For the laser grading process, specialized equipment is brought in and they basically reshape the infields.”

Laser grading ensures proper drainage, eliminates puddling of water, improves playability of the fields and makes them safer for players.

“It’s a good, overall maintenance practice for the fields,” Shuttleworth said. “Professional fields like PNC Park do laser grading a couple times a year. I try to do it every other year.”

If weather cooperates, the work could be done before the end of the year. If not, it will be completed in the spring of 2020.

There are no other items of business listed, other than taking care of any potential budget revisions and the option to enter into executive session to discuss matters involving the sale or lease of property, personnel matters, and advance construction planning.

City Council generally meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month, but it is unusual, said City Clerk Donna Krivosky, for the agenda to be so brief.
The meeting will open with prayer by City Recorder Hank Murray, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the Oct. 28 Council meeting will be approved.

Regular Council meetings are open to the public. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Council Chambers at Bridgeport Municipal Building on West Main Street. A 30-minute work session will precede Monday’s meeting.

Meetings are typically held on Mondays, but this week's meeting was pushed back one day due to the Veteran's Day holiday.
