Earlier this afternoon, Bridgeport Fire Department was once again called to Rt. 50 East near the North Central West Virginia Airport to respond to a call indicating suspicion of fire.
Fire Chief Chuck Feathers explained that it was a controlled burn.
"There have been contractors working out there near the runway for multiple weeks," he said. "Even during the ban, they had a permit from the Division of Natural Resources to burn. They're cleaning out the woods for some kind of construction and meet all government requirements. Everything is legal."
The department has received several calls over past weeks, Feathers said.
