Triumphant Quartet to Sing Free Concert at Simpson Creek Baptist Church; Church Choir to Perform with Top-Rated Group

Simpson Creek Baptist Church once again welcomes the Triumphant Quartet. The top-rated group of southern gospel musicians will perform Monday, May 22.

“This is the 14th year we’ve had them here at Simpson Creek Baptist Church,” said Terry Jones, member of the church music committee and “Master’s Blend” male vocal group. “Pastor Mike (Hopkins) fell in love with them and can’t wait for them to come each year.”
In fact, Hopkins and Triumphant Quartet bass Eric Bennett, also an ordained minister, are longtime friends and communicate several times a year. Hosting the quartet – which also consists of lead vocalist Clayton Inman, baritone Scott Inman and tenor David Sutton – is always much anticipated and well attended, Jones said.

The vocal quartet, which has had the same members since it formed in 2002 as “Integrity Quartet,” is known for original tunes “Hey, Jonah,” “the Great I Am Still Is” and “When the Trumpet Sounds,” among others. Several of the group’s songs have been nominated and awarded Singing News Fan Awards, which for several consecutive years awarded Triumphant Quartet “Favorite Traditional Male Quartet” award. Quartet musicians are pianist Aaron Dishman and audio engineer Adam Bradford.

The group’s newest CD, “Thankful,” was just released in April by StowTown Records. It’s the third recording project, following “Living in Harmony” and “He is Christmas.”

The debut single from the project is “Chain Breaker,” which has climbed the Christian music charts. Other tracks include “God Will Always Be God,” “The Cross is All the Proof I Need” and “Bottom of the Barrel.”

In a press release promoting the CD, Scott Inman said everyone goes through different seasons in life – and that this album reflects the season he and his fellow musicians are in as a group.

“God has been so good to us – and in our 15th year together - the first word that comes to mind is  ‘Thankful,’” he said.

Before touring full-time, the quartet was based out of The Miracle Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., formerly known as The Louise Mandrell Theater. Associated acts were the Oak Ridge Boys and Louise Mandrell.

Monday’s event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Opening for Triumphant Quartet is the church’s own Master’s Blend, a group of eight male choir members who together perform primarily Southern gospel music. The group has performed at West Virginia Baptist and Gideons state conventions, at various area churches and benefit events.

The SCBC Choir will also perform during the evening of music.

“Our church choir is going to participate with Triumphant Quartet during the second half of the concert. They’ll do about three songs with them,” Jones said. “The choir looks forward to that and has been practicing those songs.”

Outside of the quartet’s home church in Tennessee, Jones believes Simpson Creek Baptist is the only other choir to perform with the group.

This year’s Triumphant Quartet show is a little different from the past 13 others in another respect.

“We usually have it on a Sunday evening, but thought we’d try something different this year and maybe not conflict with church services or (weekend) sports,” Jones said.

There is no admission cost and tickets will not be sold. A love offering will be collected during the service, Jones said.

Simpson Creek Baptist Church is located at 231 West Philadelphia Avenue. The church is currently undergoing a major construction project, an addition to the building. There is plenty of on-site parking. Individuals are also welcome to park nearby downtown city-owned facilities on Main Street and Center Street.

The Simpson Creek Baptist Church concert series was established to present the gospel message in music through different genres and styles of music. The Hoppers and West Virginia native JP Miller are among other artists who have been part of the series.
