A single vehicle accident late Tuesday afternoon resulted in a truck being left out of commission and its driver needing to be transported to United Hospital Center for medical treatment.

The call came in for a vehicle accident with injury and entrapment at 5:02 p.m. just past the exit ramps off and on of State Route 131 (Benedum Drive) and State Route 279 (Jerry Dove Drive) heading toward Saltwell.

According to a Bridgeport Police Officer there was no entrapment involved once agencies arrived on the scene.

The officer, as well as a Bridgeport Fire official, stated that the driver of the truck, an adult male, was taken to UHC with non-life threatening injuries. The truck in question was a red Ford Ranger that came to rest in a ditch and against a hillside along Route 131.

No one else was involved in the accident. However, the wreck did result in some minor traffic issues. Police had to divert traffic off of Route 131 and onto Route 279 before the area was cleared and the vehicle could be removed.

Along with the Bridgeport Police and Fire Department, Bridgeport EMS and the West Virginia State Police were on the scene.

The matter is being investigated by the Bridgeport Police Department. It was unknown at the time of the incident Tuesday what led to the accident.
