Truck Mangled, Guardrail Destroyed as Result of Late Morning Single-Vehicle Accident on Saltwell Road

By Jeff Toquinto on November 29, 2017

The Bridgeport Fire Department was among several emergency units that responded to a late morning accident along Saltwell Road that appeared to involve an oil and gas commercial vehicle.

The truck in question blasted through a guardrail and was laying on its side with damage to the windows and the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was heading toward Bridgeport along Saltwell Road just before the Jones & Son Truck Repair business.

According to a Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Deputy, the driver of the vehicle was “alert, moving around and talking” when emergency personnel arrived. The driver was transported to United Hospital Center.

The Harrison County Emergency Squad handled the transportation. No other individuals were in the vehicle.

The accident was called in to the Harrison County 911 offices at 11:52 a.m. Along with the aforementioned units, the Shinnston Fire Department was also on the scene and handling the majority of the work.

Due to the location, fire personnel also was directing traffic as it led to one lane being open in the area to allow for emergency vehicles to operate. Although traffic backups were minimal as 12:30 arrived, the vehicle still needed to be removed from the field it rolled into after going through the guardrail.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
