Off the Shelf: Christmas at the Bridgeport Public Library

By Sharon Saye on December 14, 2016 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The library is quite splendid this holiday season due to the hard work of quite a few people.  Christmas arrived the first week of December with the Woman’s Club of Bridgeport decorating the entryways with bright seasonal trees.  The Christmas tree near the front door is pre-lit, 7 and a half foot tall, and decorated entirely in gold, glass, and silver ornaments.  This makes the entrance quite spectacular.

They have also worked the tree in the children’s section with traditional style ornaments that brightened that section as well.  This annual donation to the community and its library is much appreciated by patrons and staff.  Special thanks go to all the women involved including Linda Rohrig-Helmick, Judy Lawson, Karen Lang, Rita Miles, Barbara Wilburn, Terri Bracken, and Linda LeMasters.

The Bridgeport Garden Club decorated two additional Christmas trees to make the library even more festive.  The one in the young adult area of the library is glitters with blue and purple ornaments.  The other tree is near the front windows by the computers and is of Scandinavian origin.  It boasts assorted wooden ornaments with rough painting in red, green and yellow, and small bouquets of natural materials.  Once again thanks to all the members of the Garden Club who worked on these trees including Lillian Crites, Lenore Hinkle and Kay Atkinson on the tree in the young adult area, and Wonda Griffin for the Scandinavian one.

Without the help of all these wonderful people, the library would still be bright, but not quite so sparkly this holiday season.  Thank you again for all your hard work.

City facilities including the library will be closing early on December 23rd at noon for the City Christmas party.  The library will be closed on December 24th through the 27th for the holidays.  Regular library hours resume on December 28 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon until 5 p.m. on Saturdays.  The Library will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and re-open on Tuesday, January 3rd with our regular hours.
