Off the Shelf: Christmas at the Library

By Sharon Saye on December 13, 2017 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Christmas arrived at the library with the Woman’s Club of Bridgeport decorating the entryways with bright seasonal trees.  The front tree is done in beautiful golds and crystals, and the one for the children’s section is aptly full of fanciful decorations.  This annual donation to the community and its library is much appreciated by patrons and staff.  Special thanks go to Terri Bracken, Charlotte Cathell, Shirley Hadorn, Barbara Wilburn, Judy Lawson, Rita Miles, Rene Starkey, Linda Rohrig-Helmick and Judy Osborn for all their hard work in creating such delightful holiday splendor.

Our holiday concert series continued earlier this month with wonderful performances by the Bridgeport High School Jazz Band, the Bridgeport Orchestra, and the Bridgeport High School Show Choir.  Many thanks to all the talented young adults and their dedicated leaders, Chris Hayslette and Robin Bohn.

The Bridgeport Garden Club provided one of my favorite Christmas trees to make the library even more festive.  The tree is near the front windows by the computers and is of Scandinavian origin.  It boasts assorted wooden ornaments with rough painting in red, green and yellow, and small bouquets of natural materials.  Wanda and Ernest Griffin are responsible for this truly special tree.
Also, we want to express our great appreciation to the employees of the City of Bridgeport for the building’s bright lighting.  Without the help of all these generous people, the library would still be bright, but not quite so sparkly this holiday season.  Thank you again from the staff for all your hard work.

City facilities including the library will be closing at noon on December 21st for the City Christmas party and remain closed until December 26th when our regular hours resume.  The library will also be closed on January 1st for the New Year holiday.  Just remember the library has an extensive array of services available through the Internet including downloadable books, audios, music, magazines and databases.  These services are available 24/7.
