Off the Shelf: Closing in on the Final Details of the Library Renovations

By Sharon Saye on January 31, 2018 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The library is working to finalize details about our renovation project.  We have chosen carpet and laminate, and lighting fixtures.  Hopefully we will be putting this project out to bid shortly.  Some of the drawings are posted on the bulletin board and carpet samples are sitting at the front desk if you are interested.

We are making every effort to not close the library unnecessarily, but areas of the library will be closed off as the ceiling comes down, the lighting goes in and then the new flooring.  The logistics of this is going to be quite complicated, but we will keep everyone informed as things settle into place.  For instance, mystery readers will not be able to get to their favorite section, and then later, science fiction and books on cd will be blocked.  We will let everyone know the schedule, so you can check out extra items in advance, and we can set special checkout dates if you have an issue.  Just ask at the circulation desk.

Much of our programming will be affected since the conference room is one of the areas being redone, and then since it is the only empty room in the library it will be needed to put furniture, book carts, etc., as we move through the other areas.  The reading groups will continue out in the library, so they won’t be disturbed, but motion pictures and speakers will be put on hold.

Also, we just had a book sale to clear out the book donations.  We are currently still selling at only $.25 an item from tables in the hall.  By the end of February, those will be boxed up and donated since we will not have any space to store them.  And, obviously, we can’t accept donations during the February to May stretch until the project is done.

The goal is to be completed by the end of May, and although this will be inconvenient for everyone involved, the results will be spectacular.  And brightly lit.
