Off the Shelf: Renovations Continue at the Bridgeport Public Library

By Sharon Saye on August 15, 2018 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Renovations continue at the library.  Unfortunately, last week I was cut off from Internet and phone and couldn’t get my column in on time, but we seem to be back to normal now.   The front section is mostly done; the new lights designed for book stacks are working and the light issues seem to be solved.  One set of lights over the computers needs to be spaced further apart, but things are moving forward.

The contractors are currently in the center section of the library where they are cutting a trench in the cement floor to put new electrical outlets so that when you are working with your laptops you will have power without running extension cords to the nearest wall outlet.  Because of that this section is accessible, but very dim since this is holding up the lighting part of the project.  They are making major headway in the office area where we are combining two offices into one so that we will have space for computer classes and 3D printers.  I will be left without an office for part of this week, but should be back in business next week.

Carpeting and flooring for this section is in the works for late this week or next, and then we can put the bookshelves and tables back in place and watch chaos move to the back section of the library.

Currently we are experiencing phone issues in the front of the library.  Part of the library phone system works, and part does not.  So, don’t be surprised if the phone seems to ring a long time since the staff at the front circulation desk can’t answer only the poor person at the back desk is now fielding almost all the calls.  That problem should be solved this week.

Our programs are continuing in a limited way and new books are arriving, but we are operating in constantly changing conditions, so please be patient.  The project is scheduled to finish in mid-October.
