Off the Shelf: Renovations Only Weeks Away from Being Finished

By Sharon Saye on September 12, 2018 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Renovations are heading into the final weeks; the contractors hope to be done by the end of September.  Currently we are unloading books and puzzles from the conference room on to shelving that once held the paperback collection.  Since we have been using the conference room to hold boxes of all sorts of materials since the beginning of the project, the logistics are getting very tight.  So, you may see boxes of books in the public areas while we wait for the chance to get them back on the shelves where they belong.

Since they are currently working in the back of the library over the circulation desk, checking out there is limited.  The four Internet computers are in storage until the new flooring is installed, but there are eight Internet computers up and working in the front of the library.  The music collection has been boxed up and won’t be available until that section is done.

The offices are also disrupted since everything had to be cleared off while they removed the old ceilings and started to replace them.  So new books are sitting in boxes, but “Fear” by Bob Woodward has been ordered and should arrive tomorrow and we will get it out as fast as possible.  Several copies are available tomorrow in eBook form on the WVDELI.

So, expect a great deal of disruption in the next few weeks, and then a lot of confusion as the staff tries to find what is in which boxes.  It will be brighter and much more modern here with a new room for computer training with 3D printers.  We are also looking at buying loveseats with tables and built-in electrical outlets to make reading and working at the library even more comfortable.  So, construction will soon be ending, but change will not.
