BHS Alum, WVU Redshirt Freshman Elijah Drummond Named to 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team

The Big 12 Conference announced today the members of the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team. And a Bridgeport High School alum is on the list.
 
Multiple West Virginia student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom, led by D.J. Carozza, Chris Chugunov, Shane Commodore, Reese Donahue, Bridgeport High School alum Elijah Drummond, Brendan Ferns, Adam Hensley, Billy Kinney, Grant Lingafelter, Sean Mahone, Alejandro Marenco III, Nick Meadows, Mike Molina, Ricky Rogers, Evan Staley and Logan Thimons, who earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team distinction.
 
Jon Lewis, Colton McKivitz, Jeffery Pooler Jr., Ka'Raun White, Kyzir White and Jonn Young were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.
 
It marked Lingafelter's fourth time (first team in 2017, second team in 2014, 2015 and 2016) on the academic all-conference team and the second for Commodore (first team in 2016), Kinney (first team in 2016), McKivitz (first team in 2016), Molina (first team in 2016) and Ka'Raun White (second team in 2016).
 
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. 
 
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. 
 
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
