BHS Remains No. 4 in Latest WVSSAC Football Poll

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 17, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

As the 2019 Bridgeport High School football season winds down, Bridgeport finds itself still in good shape for the postseason. According to the latest computer-generated rankings released earlier this week, the Indians are still ranked in the No. 4 spot in Class AA.

If the season would end now, the Indians would finish the year earning a playoff berth and being in position to host two playoff games. A team must finish in the top two spots to earn the right to host throughout the postseason.

Fairmont Senior is the clear top-ranked team in the standings with a 6-0 record. They are followed by Keyser, also 6-0. The Golden Tornado will visit Bridgeport on Oct. 25 in a showdown that should have plenty of postseason implications.

In the third spot, Poca is holding things down with a 7-0 record. They are followed by BHS.

Lewis County would also host a first round playoff game if action started today. The Minutemen have won five in a row after dropping their season opener to Bridgeport and are ranked No. 8.

Two other Bridgeport foes are in the top 16 - all of whom make the postseason. Liberty at 5-1 and North Marion at 4-2 are both ranked in the No. 12 spot.

No other local Class AA teams are in the top 20.

Cabell Midland at 7-0 is ranked No. 1 in Class AAA. Doddridge County and Pendleton County, both 6-0, are deadlocked for the top spot in Class A.
