After being away from softball action for 11 days, Bridgeport Middle School returned to action Monday as it traveled to Summit Park to take on Notre Dame. The layoff did not appear to have an adverse effect on the Lady Braves as they rolled to a 14-1 win.

In the top of the first, Bridgeport sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs. Four walks and base hits by Corinne Lalama, Olivia Kesling, and starting pitcher Cheyenne Martin contributed to the scoring.

BMS added seven more runs in the second inning.  The big hits were a three-run inside-the-park homerun by Shea Hefner and a two-run scoring double Makenzie Earp.  After an inning and a half, the Lady Braves were up 11-0.

In the bottom of the second, NDMS got on the scoreboard by scoring one run and cutting the BMS lead to 11-1.

Bridgeport extended its lead by adding three more runs in the third. Hefner started the inning with a leadoff triple. The next batter, Katie Via, reached base safely and that scored Hefner. Humble followed with a single.  Three walks later brought home both Via and Humble with the Lady Braves final runs of the game and a 14-1 lead.

Martin pitched the first two innings for BMS and was the winning pitcher. She allowed one run on zero hits, walked one, hit one batter with a pitch, and had two strikeouts. With the win, she improved her record to 3-0 on the season.

Makenna Smith pitched the third inning for the Lady Braves. It marked her first varsity pitching appearance for BMS. She walked the first two batters she faced. Smith then got the next batter to hit a line drive to BMS shortstop Hefner who threw to Lalama at second base to complete a double play. Smith then got the next batter to fly out to center field to end the game.

The victory upped the Lady Braves season record to 6-0.

BMS returns to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader against the South Harrison Lady Hawks at the Bridgeport Softball Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 4:30p.m.
