The Bridgeport High School swim team kicked off its competitive season Thursday with an away meet at Wheeling Park High School. The boys edged out a close victory, racking up 84 points to the Patriots’ 81. For the girls, it was a Wheeling Park win, the Lady Patriots garnering 92 points during the meet and the Lady Indians, 77.

 

Boys’ first-place finishes went to the 200-medlay relay Phillip Malenich, Luke Pinti, John Carner and Kyle Malcolm Jr. 1:52.29; Marcel Rodriquez, 200-freestyle 2:08.01; John Carter 200-individual medley 2:13.76; Kyle Malcolm Jr. 50-freestyle 25.40; John Carter 100-butterfly 1:02.02; Marcel Rodriquez 100-freestyle 57.27; Luke Pinti 100-breaststroke 1:11.63.

 

Girl’s first-place finishes were Sarah Stallman 50-yard freestyle 26.70; Jenna Soltesz 100-butterfly 1:08.08; Sarah Stallman 100-freestyle 59.90; 200-freestyle relay team of Darian Spencer, Katelyn Pinti, Cheri Signorelli and Sarah Stallman.

 

Other favorable finishes included the 200-medley relay teams of Signorelli, Spencer, Soltesz and Stallman and the team of Jaryn Dodrill, Pinti, Vaughn Vincent and Maggie Lane, finishing second and third, respectively; Spencer, finishing second in the 200-individual medley; Vaughn Vincent’s second place finish in the 100-butterfly; Viktor Rodriquez’s second-place finish in the 100-butterfly; Malcolm’s second-place finish in the 100-freestyle; Signorelli’s second-place 500-freestyle finish; Malenich’s second-place 500-freestyle and the second-place 400-free relay team of Malcolm, Rodriquez, Malenich and Carter.

 

The Indians are back in action Nov. 21 at the WVU Natatorium against Morgantown and University high schools. Start time is 7:45 p.m. Following a 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29 meet at Davis & Elkins College – against Elkins High School – BHS will swim in the Dec. 2 Rotary Invitational at the Harrison County YMCA. Competitive swimming starts at noon.
