Bridgeport’s boys and girls basketball teams both moved up in the MetroNews High School Basketball Power Index standings that were released yesterday.

The boys, who are back in action this evening at Buckhannon-Upshur, and are listed with a 14-2 record after rallying for a win Tuesday against Lincoln, are listed as the No. 5 team in Class AA.

Fairmont Senior, at 15-1, is ranked No. 1. That sets up a top five showdown at BHS Saturday as the Indians will play host to the Polar Bears at 7:30 p.m.

The rest of the top five in Class AA includes No. 2 Bluefield (12-1), No. 3 Logan (17-2) and No. 4 Chapmanville (15-2). Bridgeport is ranked No. 13 overall regardless of classifications and Fairmont Senior comes in ranked No. 5 in the overall standings.

Robert C. Byrd is the only other local ‘AA’ team in the top 10. The Eagles are No. 8 with a 12-4 mark.

Martinsburg remains No. 1 in Class AAA and in the overall standings and is the lone unbeaten team in the state. The Bulldogs are 17-0.

Clarksburg Notre Dame is ranked No. 2 in Class behind 13-4 Beckley Christian. The Fighting Irish are 15-2 on the year.

Fairmont Senior completes the power rankings sweep as it is top-ranked in Class AA here as well. The Polar Bears, 15-2, are ranked No. 3 overall. The rest of the top five includes Wyoming East (15-3) at No. 2, No. 3 North Marion at 15-4, No. 4 James Monroe at 16-2 and No. 5 Wayne at 15-3.

Locally, Lincoln is ranked No. 8 in Class AA. The Cougars are listed at 12-2.

In Class AAA, Parkersburg is ranked No. 1 at 17-1. They are also the top-ranked team in the overall standings.

St. Joseph Central is ranked No. 1 in Class A and No. 7 overall. The team has a 15-1 mark on the year.
