Bridgeport High Junior Koby Kiefer Once Again Earns Honors from Prestigious Ray Guy Kicking Camp

He was already named all-Harrison County, all-Big 10 Conference and was a first-team Class AA all-state player. And those honors all came in 2016.

When you’re good enough, sometimes the honors come in the offseason. Such was the case for Bridgeport High School junior Koby Kiefer.

Last week, Kiefer was awarded is second Ray Guy Prokicker.com Top Prospect Award. The honor came from the highly prestigious kicking camp after Kiefer attended it after his sophomore year and the group involved followed his progress this year at BHS.

As the awards above noted, his junior campaign was impressive. He hit on 8-of-16 field goals this past year and was nearly automatic on point-after tries. Kiefer finished by hitting on 43-of-46 point-after kicks.

As a punter, he was equally impressive. He averaged 38.4 yards per kick with a long of 55. Of his 36 punts, he landed 12 of them inside the 20-yard line as he consistently flipped the field in the Indians’ favor this year. Kiefer also had double digit kickoffs go out for touchbacks this year.

“It’s such an honor to earn that recognition from the Ray Guy camp because he’s one of the greatest of all time,” said Kiefer. “I’d really like the chance to keep it going, have a good senior season and be able to recognized by them next year with a third straight award.”

Kiefer has been working on his leg since the end of the year. He has attended the Chris Sailer Kicking Camp in Las Vegas, which is considered by some as the most prestigious kicking camp available. More than 600 kickers, punters and specialists attend the camp.

“I did pretty well there and I’ve got a couple of other camps that I’ll be attending,” said Kiefer.

Kiefer wants to play football and kick at the collegiate level. He’s already drawn interest from several schools including Maryland, Rutgers, Pitt, Marshall and Old Dominion – some showing more interest than others.

“It’s really early and I haven’t committed to anything,” said Kiefer. “I’m going to keep working and try to get my name out there and hopefully I’ll end up with a chance to play somewhere.”
