INFORMATION PROVIDED TO CONNECT-BRIDGEPORT

 

Two local athletes who recently graduated won’t officially see their high school sports career end until Sunday. Bridgeport High School senior Emily Riggs and Notre Dame Senior Taylor Martino will both take part in the annual North-South Girls All-Star basketball game Sunday at East Fairmont High School.

 

Game time is 4 p.m. Activities begin at 2:30 p.m. with a 3-point shooting and three throw contest.

 

Both players led their teams to an outstanding year. Riggs paced the Indians in nearly every statistical category, earned all-state first team honors and led her squad to the Class AA state tournament in Charleston and will continue her career at Fairmont State University. Martino led her team to within a game of the Class A state tournament and was a member of the all-state second team in that classification.

 

Riggs and Martino, who lives in the BHS district and attends NDHS, will be coached by Williamstown’s Fred Sauro and Trinity’s Mike Baldy. Their opposition, the South, will be coached by George Washington’s Jamie LaMaster and Ripley’s John Kennedy.

 

Two players from the Big 10 Conference will also be on the North squad. Buckhannon-Upshur’s Audrey Gaudet and Fairmont Senior’s Anysa Jordan will take part in the game.
