Despite Pair of Weekend Losses, BHS Maintains Hold on Top Spot in MetroNews 'AA' Baseball Standings

Although Bridgeport's top-ranked baseball team had a good week, they didn't have a perfect one. In fact, the Indians lost a pair of games this weekend in the annual McDonald's Classic to fall to 7-3 on the season.

So did it impact what a panel of radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia felt about the Indians in the Class AA standings? For the fourth straight week, it didn't.

Bridgeport, 3-1 after the last standings, remained the No. 1 team in the state in 'AA' as the Tribe received six of the 10 first place votes to maintain the top spot. However, the Indians  are getting pushed for the position.

Wayne moved up the No. 2 spot. The Pioneers gained three first place votes and stand at 14-2 on the year.

Frankfort dropped from the second position to No. 2 in the poll and have a 9-4 record. A battle of what was to be No. 1 BHS vs. the then No. 2 Falcons was scrapped Saturday due to rain with Bridgeport leading 1-0 after one inning of play.

For the first time this year, another Big 10 team cracks the top five. Elkins comes in at No. 4 with an 8-1 record, while Chapmanville rounds out the top 5 with an 11-4 mark.

Lincoln remained in the top 10. The Cougars stayed at the No. 10 position with an impressive 12-2 mark. One other Big 10 team is in the "also receiving votes" portion of the poll - Fairmont Senior.

No local teams are in the Class A standings.  However, Notre Dame is just outside of the top 10. The Fighting Irish, with 18 points, is just behind No. 10 Pendleton County.
