Bridgeport will be on the road in the playoffs for the first time since 2012 after No. 2 Bluefield rolled past No.  7 Point Pleasant by a 49-17 score Saturday afternoon. Had the Big Blacks won, the game would have been played at Wayne Jamison Field this coming weekend.

 

This morning at the WVSSAC offices in Parkersburg, Indians Coach John Cole made his selection for the game time. The Indians and Bluefield will matchup Friday at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Indians advanced to the semifinals thanks to their 42-13 win over Winfield Friday. The win has No. 3 Bridgeport at 11-1 on the year. Bluefield is one of two remaining undefeated teams at 12-0.

 

Cole actually had four choices. With the Thanksgiving holiday in play, BHS could have actually played at 1:30 p.m. this coming Friday, which is exactly what the Tribe did in 2012 in the ‘AA’ semifinals at Keyser. The 7:30 p.m. Friday game was available, as were 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. games on Saturday.

 

This isn’t the first time the Beavers and Indians have met in the postseason. The teams played in the 2013 ‘AA’ semifinals in Bridgeport with the Indians taking a 42-21 win.

 

On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 Fairmont Senior punched its ticket back to the semifinals with a 43-8 thumping of No. 5 Wayne Saturday. FSHS is now 11-1, while the Pioneers end the season at 10-2. The Polar Bears will have a rematch of last season’s championship game and will be looking for revenge against defending champion and 12-0 Mingo Central.

 

The top-seeded Miners toppled No. 8 Liberty 53-22 Friday. MCHS beat Robert C. Byrd in the opening round, which means it will play a Big 10 Conference school in the postseason for the third straight week.
