For those who prefer there high school football on Friday nights there’s some good news. Bridgeport’s Class AA quarterfinal high school football playoff game with Winfield won’t take place on Saturday afternoon or evening.

This morning at the WVSSAC offices in Parkersburg, the Generals made their selection as to their preferred game day and time. The contest will take place Friday at Wayne Jamison Field.

Kickoff for the game will be at 7:30 p.m.

The No. 3 Indians moved to the game thanks to Saturday’s 35-12 win against Weir. The Generals, who are the No. 11 seed, moved to the next round by upending No. 6 James Monroe by a 29-0 score on the road this past Friday.

Bridgeport Coach John Cole said following the win against the Red Riders that he was expecting another tough game. Cole pointed out that in Winfield’s final game of the regular season the club lost 56-50 to Class AA No. 1 and defending state champion Mingo Central.

Two more Big 10 Conference teams advanced to the quarterfinals. No. 8 Liberty (9-2) will visit top-ranked Mingo Central (11-0), while No. 4 Fairmont Senior will host No. 5 Wayne Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Both the Polar Bears and the Pioneers are 10-1.

South Harrison, ranked No. 2 and standing at 10-1 in Class A, will host No. 10 Wheeling Central (7-4) Friday night. That game will be played at Robert C. Byrd High School.
