Although Bridgeport’s final regular season game isn’t until Friday at Elkins, the bracket for the Class AA Region II, Section 1 girls’ basketball tournament has been released. Bridgeport High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Matt DeMotto, who is overseeing the section, provided the information Tuesday on the schedule.

The Indians have already earned a first round bye. The Tribe will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will face No. 3 seed Robert C. Byrd Wednesday, Feb. 22, at BHS. If the Indians win that contest, they will play again on Friday.

The sectional tournament begins Monday, Feb. 20. On that day, No. 4 Elkins will battle No. 5 Liberty with the winner advancing to play top seed Lincoln on Wednesday in Shinnston.

The winner of the Lincoln game against either Liberty or Elkins will face the Bridgeport-Robert C. Byrd winner Friday in the sectional championship game. The title game will be played on the floor of the highest remaining seeded team.

All games tip at 7 p.m.

The two teams that make it to the sectional title game both have a chance to advance to the state tournament. The winner of Friday’s sectional title game will host the loser of the sectional championship from Region II, Section 2. The loser of Friday’s sectional title game will visit the winner of the Region II, Section 2 title game the following week.

The girls’ state basketball tournament will run March 8 through March 11. The tournament will again be held at the Charleston Civic Center.

Ticket cost $5 for the sectional. Tickets sold at door.
