Indians Maintain Standing in Latest WVSSAC Football Poll in Class AA as Postseason Positioning Begins

Bridgeport’s win Friday against North Marion helped the Indians maintain their No. 5 ranking in the latest WVSSAC Class AA high school football computer rankings. The rankings determine the 16-team playoff field in all three classifications.
 
The Tribe, now 6-1, is the highest loss ‘AA’ team in the standings with one loss. Whether they maintain the position with a victory this Friday remains to be seen as the Indians play host to Elkins. The Tigers are 2-4 and ranked 28th on the year in the same classification.
 
Fairmont Senior maintains the top spot in the poll with a perfect 7-0 mark. The Polar Bears are trailed by defending Class AA champion Bluefield. The Beavers are 6-0.
 
Nicholas County and Poca come in at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Both teams are 7-0 on the year.
 
The remaining unbeaten is Point Pleasant High School. PPHS, is 5-0, and is coming off a second consecutive bye week.
 
Robert C. Byrd at 5-2 moves up to No. 8 in this week’s standings. The Eagles are one spot behind 5-1 Keyser, a future Bridgeport opponent. The Indians will travel to battle the No. 7 Golden Tornado in week number nine.
 
Only one other local team would be in the playoff field if the regular season was complete. Grafton, 4-1, is ranked No. 10. In Class A, 6-0 Doddridge County is ranked No. 4.
