It’s finally official. Bridgeport will play host to Weir in the first round of the Class AA playoffs this coming week.

The WVSSAC officially released the pairings for all three classifications today and they are posted on MetroNews. The 9-1 Indians will battle the 7-3 Red Riders at Wayne Jamison Field.

Bridgeport ended the season as the No. 3 seed, jumping Fairmont Senior. The Tribe’s bonus points in the win over Lincoln helped them get past the Polar Bears.

While the opponent is now known, the day and time of the game won’t become official until tomorrow. As the visiting team, WHS will be able to choose from a Friday game at 7:30 p.m. or a Saturday contest at either 1:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.

The coaching staff for Weir will make the call in Parkersburg. Coaches from the top 16 teams from all three classes meet at the WVSSAC offices to make their decisions.

Several local teams are in the field, including multiple from the Big 10 Conference. Fairmont Senior, the No. 4 seed, will play 7-3 Keyser.

Despite a season-ending loss, Robert C. Byrd managed to make it into the field at 6-4. The Eagles will be on the road to face defending Class AA champion and undefeated Mingo Central.

The team that beat RCB Friday, Philip Barbour, finished the year 8-2 and ranked No. 10. The Colts will face off with 8-2 Point Pleasant whose two losses come to the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the state in Mingo Central and Bluefield.

Liberty’s loss to South Harrison left the Mountaineers at 8-2. However, Liberty earned a home game for the first round of playoffs and will host 8-2 Nicholas County.

In Class A, South Harrison finished the year at 9-1 after a hammering Liberty in the final game of the regular season Friday. The Hawks will host 6-4 Richwood.
