Lady Indians Fall 12-0 to Herbert Hoover in Regional Opener; Chance to Stay Alive in Post-Season Play is Tonight on Huskies' Home Field

In five innings, Herbert Hoover wrapped up a 12-0 victory over the Lady Indians in the Tribe’s Region II opener Monday evening in Bridgeport.

“The best team won tonight,” said BHS Assistant Coach Chuck Carr following Monday night’s loss. “I’m not saying that they’re the better team, they just played better tonight.”

Herbert Hoover took advantage of some BHS mistakes and the Huskies produced key hits at just the right times, Carr said.
“And their pitcher (D. Buckner) pitched a really good game – allowing only one hit,” he said.

That one BHS hit – a single - was by Abby Strait and it came in the fifth inning. Strait also pitched for the Indians, giving up nine hits and striking out three.

The Herbert Hoover lead came early when the Huskies’ K Naylor scored on her own hit – a first inning homerun. They added six runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and tallied the remainder in the fifth, including another homerun, this one by M. Bowles.

It wasn’t the result BHS hoped for, but not all is lost. Continuing the best-out-of-three format, BHS takes on the Huskies of Herbert Hoover again tomorrow – this time at their field in Clendenin.

Game time is 6 p.m. The Indians will stay alive in post-season play if they bring home the win.
