Mountain East Conference Commissioner Reid Amos has received a contract extension set to run through the 2020-21 academic year, the conference's Board of Directors announced.

"The Board is extremely pleased with the successes for our Mountain East institutions both academically and athletically in such a short amount of time under the direction of Commissioner Amos," said Concord University President Dr. Kendra Boggess. “Commissioner Amos has done a tremendous job of providing outstanding leadership and in raising the profile of our institutions both regionally and nationally."

Amos has served as commissioner since the conference's inception in 2013. In just four-plus years, MEC institutions have seen unprecedented success at the NCAA Division II level, including the only NCAA championships by its members in their collective histories conference during that time with Wheeling Jesuit claiming the volleyball title in 2015 and the University of Charleston winning the 2017 men's soccer championship. Additionally, MEC teams have earned 104 NCAA postseason berths and won 18 Atlantic Region/Super Region 1 titles during that time.

Amos has led an expansion of the number of championships offered during his five years with the addition of championships in women's lacrosse and men's and women's swimming. The MEC sponsors 19 NCAA championship sports for nearly 4,000 student-athletes.

In addition to his duties with the MEC, Amos has served as a member of the NCAA Division II Football Committee since 2015, and was selected as the committee's chair in February of 2018. Amos additionally served as chair of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Committee in 2013 and 2014. During the final two years of a six-year stint, he helped lead the sport to a successful format change to match play.

Amos has also helped land several NCAA Championships as the league has co-hosted multiple NCAA Women's Lacrosse and Softball national championships, and the MEC is set to host the 2019 Men's Golf NCAA Division II Championships at The Resort at Glade Springs.

In 2015, Amos was named Gazette-Mail West Virginia Sportsperson of the Year along with the Mountain East Conference.

“It has been the greatest opportunity of my career to serve in this role leading our twelve outstanding Mountain East Conference institutions,” Amos said. “The high level of competitiveness among our institutions and the cooperative nature among our members has fueled successes that have exceeded our expectations over our first four-plus years. While I am extremely pleased with the successes we have experienced to date, I know that there is still so much to do. I am humbled and honored that our Board of Directors has asked that I continue to lead this great conference."
