New BHS Football Web Site Running with Plenty of Info; Travis Jones Asks Community for Needed Items

It’s been a little over a month, but for those of you that may have missed it and are fans of Bridgeport High School football you are really missing out. On Thursday, May 25, the new Indians football Web site launched that is a one-stop shop for all things Tribe football.

For those who want to check it out now, it’s simple. Click HERE to go to bridgeportindiansfootball.com. You won’t be the first to visit and you won’t be the last.

“We’ve had nothing but positive feedback since it launched,” said Travis Jones, the “Voice of the Indians” who handles a number of items for the program – this Web site included. “Once we get closer to the season and people are in more of a football mindset, I think you’ll see people routinely go to the site to see the latest information, to check schedules, game times and just about anything they may need to know.”

Jones said the idea to launch the Web site was a simple one. And that is to be a resource for the entire BHS football community.

“By resource, we want that to include the players, the coaches and the fans,” said Jones. “We’re confident you’ll find almost any answer you need or any information you want on the site.”

The Web site is loaded with information, some of it meticulously put together by Jones color analyst Ryan Nicewarner. Nicewarner used information he’s already had and got with individuals such as Mark Trippett, Mike Corder, Alice Rowe and Paul Bognar to compile additional historical information that’s up on the site.

“We actually have historical stuff back to the first game in 1921. Outside of one season where we’re not sure who the coach was, we’ve been really lucky that we’ve been able to get this information in our hands and now we plan to make sure it’s available and kept up,” said Jones. “There are some items between the 1920s and 1940s that we don’t have that we’d like to have help in filling in the blanks.”

One thing that will be interesting for those visiting the site is a look back for the last several years of statistics. Although Jones began doing the games locally back in 1993, the full statistics – which are extremely detailed – weren’t compiled until 1997, which is during the start of the Bruce Carey era.

“We’d love to have it go further back, but the individual and game statistics prior to that time period is very difficult to find,” said Jones. “We know that’s going to be difficult to find, but we do believe the community can help us with some other needs.”

Jones said the site is in need of older pictures of players – particularly any player that was an all-state player. Also, those that went on to play college – which is part of the site – are wanted as well.

“We know our college list is far from complete on those that played in college,” said Jones. “We’re asking for help there too and they can find the email on the page to send us information.”

The players on the list don’t need to have started in college or, for that matter, played four years. Jones said they’re just looking for student-athletes that signed to play and made it to the first two-a-days and were on the roster the opening day for their freshman year – redshirt or otherwise.

“If any former player, or a parent or someone associated with that player, has a photo of them while at college that would be helpful as well and would be added to the Web site,” said Jones.

Another request Jones has is for the state championship team photos. Jones said the final three team photos from state title squads – 2015, 2014 and 2013 – they have. All prior they need including 2000, 1988, 1986, 1979, 1972 and 1955.
