When West Virginia University left the Big East and joined the Big 12 Conference, it was part of major shakeup not only involving the Mountaineers in collegiate sports. It was in the middle of the realignment era that is still ongoing - although not to the same level - in college athletics.

While there are people who believe it's been a good move for WVU and there are some who believe the opposite, Pat Forde - one of the top collegiate journalists in the country - recenty penned a piece for Yahoo Sports titled "Winners and losers of the decade of realignment in college sports."

The piece comes out just after the University of Connecticut, one of West Virginia's former Big East partners, announced it was leaving the American Athletic Conferennce and going back to the Big East for all sports except football. The Big East no longer has a football brand and the Huskies will become one of the few independents in the country.

Forde's piece breaks down the winners and losers in the entire realignment era. And he most certainly talks about West Virginia. See where Forde believes the Mountaineers fall in the win-loss column.
