Thanks to Friends of Bridgeport Football, Upgrades in Place at Jamison Field Complex Spruce Things Up

For the past several years, the Wayne Jamison Field athletic complex has seen multiple large projects undertaken. Heading into the 2018-19 school year, things are a bit quiet by comparison.

However, that doesn’t mean things aren’t being done. In fact, earlier this month a bit of a cleanup was made of one area that some may have thought was an eyesore.

“We went and replaced some old advertising signs in the old field house building that’s right before the press box building,” said Travis Jones, the President of the Friends of Bridgeport Football and also the “Voice of the Indians” on their radio network. “The signs were old and dated, according to Billy Reep (of Reep Graphics) at least 10 years old, and more than one of those advertising were no longer in business.”

In place of the old advertising signs are new signs in the window areas. The signs represent sports programs at Bridgeport High School as well as Bridgeport Middle School.

Signs are up showing prep sports for the football team, the soccer program and the Indians’ track program. There is also a new sign up for the Braves of Bridgeport Middle School.

“It’s a smaller project and we felt we really needed to spruce up the old field house building,” said Jones. “The Friends of Indian Football like to do a project or two to make the facility look better; sometimes that’s painting something or cleaning something and sometimes it’s purchasing something.”

The group raises funds to do projects such as this. The recently completed golf tournament, the John Cole Football Camp and the annual steak fry all provide dollars to help with programs such as this.

“We definitely wanted to represent the football program with the new signs, but also the programs using the facility as their primary location for games and many practices. Plus, that’s an entry point to the facility and you want not only those programs to all be represented, but you want it to look well too,” said Jones.

The building that is being spruced is still in use. It’s utilized as the BMS Field House and is also used by the soccer programs.

Jones said it’s likely the Friends of Indian Football will do another project before the year is complete. He said it’s not a sure thing, but it will be announced when a final decision is made.
