With a 13-4-2 record, the Bridgeport High School boys soccer team has one more game to play this season. After facing Lincoln this evening, the top-seeded Tribe gets a respite during the first round of sectional action, thereafter jumping in during semifinals Tuesday at Wayne Jamison Field.

The Indians’ Tyler Whiteman has been a catalyst in wrapping up recent wins. The senior defender scored the only two goals in Tuesday’s game against University, blanking the Hawks. The first was scored midway through the first period off a solid pass from Adam Bentz. Shortly before halftime, Whiteman struck again; this time off a pass from Broc Oliverio. Throughout the game, Whiteman had a couple other attempts, but the 2-0 lead secured in the first half held.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Tribe won over Elkins at a contest held on Indian turf.

There was scoring action all around as the Indians outplayed Elkins 11-3 in a game which found BHS down 1-0 early in the game. It was Bentz who got scoring action started, kicking a goal from an Oliverio pass. Hayden Hamilton’s goal took the lead for BHS. Four more first-half goals were contributed by a pair of goals each by Oliverio and Tristan Nolte. Second-half goals were scored by Mac Madden, Whiteman, Tristan Shaw, Evan Oden and Kyle McCarthy, winding up in an impressive win for the Tribe.

Thursday, Oct. 5, BHS was on the road to Buckhannon-Upshur where they tallied a 5-2 victory.

Whiteman had four goals; two in the first half with assists by Oliverio. In period two, Whiteman struck another pair of goals; one off a free kick by Hamilton and the other with an assist by Madden. Goalkeeper Parker Sheppard saved seven for the Tribe.

Tonight’s game against the Lincoln Cougars – to be held at Wayne Jamison Field - starts at 8 p.m.
