The Grapevine: A Busy May

By Rosalyn Queen on May 11, 2017 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

May is one of the busiest months of the year.  It starts out reminding us that Mother's Day will be the second Sunday of the month.  Mother's Day is one of the most observed holidays of the year.  I think that I read somewhere that there are more cards and more flowers sold on that day than any other in the year.  There probably are more phone calls made home to mom on Mother's Day than any other day. I would think that this just shows us who holds a special place in our hearts. Whether they are our birth mothers or the one who raised us, we acknowledge on this day that they have laid the foundation that has shaped our lives.

As a mother it is not important that I receive flowers, etc. but that I spend the day with my children being bathed in love.  As a daughter, I want to acknowledge to my mother how much I realize she did for me and what an important part she played in shaping me into the individual that I am today. Although Mother's Day comes just once a year lets make a pledge to remember our mothers every day of the year.  Happy Mother's Day to all my readers and may this be a special day for you.

Another event that I remember happening in May is the May Procession that was held at our church. At that time just the girls participated in the procession and they were dressed in white and one young girl was chosen to place a crown of flowers on the Virgin Mary statue.  There were also plays held at school with the learning of the May pole dance.  While talking about school, May is always the month of graduation and we always held our proms in May. If you are planning a graduation party or a shower be sure to contact the PWA to rent the facility.

As we near the end of May we will celebrate Memorial Day and then Summer vacation will start.

Locally there is much going on that we can be a part of.  The Harrison Cultural Foundation will end this years season with the presentation of The Fabulous Equinox Little Big Band.  Hats off to this group for a wonderful season.  Every program was great.

Another big event coming to the area is the Route 50 Yard Sale.  It will be held on Main and Third Street In Clarksburg on May 20.  This is a national event and will be observed along Route 50 across the United States.  Plan on participating with some of your own items or just attending to pick up a good bargain. Call the PWA at 304 624 6881 for  more information. The League for Service will also be holding a May Fair at Jackson's Square on the same day with a lot of activity planned for kids.  There will also be good food to eat.

A reminder that there will be some city elections being held next month,be sure to get to know the candidates and be sure to get out and vote.

School will soon be out and I caution you to watch for the children along the road.  If you are careful you can avert an accident. When a young child is hurt it makes no difference who was at fault.

Have a great week, keep in touch and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through
The Grapevine."
