The Grapevine: Celebrating Different Cultures and an Update on the Big Move

This past week Dave and I attended the showing of the documentary The Wereth 11. It was sponsored by the Historical Society and was shown at the Uptown Event Center. It was in conjunction with the observance of Black Culture Month and it certainly was an eye opener to the discrimination that the black soldiers suffered during the war in Europe. I encourage you to go see this film if you have the opportunity.
You know freedom comes to us in many ways and this gives us something to think about. I hope you plan on attending the Women of Distinction luncheon to celebrate Women of Color in Harrison County.
On Thursday, March 2, The Cultural Foundation will be presenting A Celtic Celebration. It will be held at the Robert C. Byrd High School Theatre. This is part of the Foundation's series of presentations for this year. For tickets or information call (304) 669-7045.
An update on our move. WE are settled in our new home but we have not been able to get rid of everything from the old place so that we can put it up for sale. I think I mentioned this before but you know moving is not for sissies. The only good thing about this is that I have found items that I thought were gone forever. I ran across a folder that had all of my report cards in it and it also had a copy of the speech that I made as valedictorian of my ninth grade class from Broadway Junior High, In another column I will share the contents of this presentation with you. We thought that perhaps we would have a yard sale, but we have decided to donate everything to the Mission. Do so will help support a great cause that helps so many people in our community.

I know that this weather has been crazy, but is seems to have given a lot of people the flu. I hope you have not fallen victim to the flu. But if you have, please be sure to seek medical attention immediately. I hate to admit it but they say we elderly citizens will have a harder time getting rid of it.
When walking around the neighborhood we came upon a patch of Easter lilies that were getting ready to bloom and Dave saw a Robin in our back yard. So you know that means spring is on its way.
If you are wondering why the column is short it is because I have not learned to fully operate my new computer and I have not had the time to set down and figure it out. But I will soon.
