The Grapevine: Christmas in July and Something Delicious at Oliverio's

By Rosalyn Queen on July 23, 2019 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A part of starting a new life is having priorities and establishing schedules. Now there are different times when you must make plans to fulfill your needs and not depend on someone else doing that for you.

Presently, I am concentrating on filling my evenings and I have been doing that with watching movies on television.  I have never done that before. But recently I have discovered the Hallmark channel and have really enjoyed the movies that I watch about every evening from eight to eleven. There is no violence, no sex and no bad language.  The movies are generally family movies.  Now they are having a Christmas in July series and I am enjoying this tremendously.  It has become a way for me to pass the long evenings.

Immediately following the movies there is a rerun of the Golden Girls. I remember watching this series when it first came out but now I am seeing it in a different way. Long ago I did not realize this but now I see a lot of sexual connotation intermixed with the humor.  It is not those naked or nearly vulgar scenes we see on modern television but there is a lot of talking about bed hopping.  And the surprising part is that even 86 year old Sophia talks about it. Now at my age this does not shock or offend me and I even find it amusing, but I would still find the show entertaining without it.

By the way, one bad thing about lots of TV watching is the amount of snacking I do.

I am disappointed about my patio garden, but due to my health, I have not been able to give it the attention it requires.  I Will probably get a few tomatoes and peppers and my basil looks like it is going to make it.

Talking about tomatoes, Oliverio's Ristorante in Bridgeport is serving a great tomato salad.  I had a wonderful lunch with Rhonda Holyfield Mangiere there and we both had this salad.  Rhonda and I discussed the upcoming art show that the PWA is sponsoring.

There are a lot of new and exciting things happening at the PWA.  Look forward to hearing about the Christmas in July candle making, Peppie's Pet Pantry (which the Exponent-Telegram featured this past week), and the Italian American Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon.  We thank our wonderful sponsors for continuing to support our programs, especially Davis Funeral Home - our longest and continuing sponsor.

I hope everyone will look forward to our Young Professional Women's Association's programs and I urge you to support their projects.

Keep cool, keep in touch and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
