The Grapevine: The Hidden Talent of Norman Julian and the Christmas Season

By Rosalyn Queen on November 29, 2016 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This past week while browsing through Facebook, I came across what I thought to be a painting by my friend, Norm Julian.  Just seeing his name brought back a lot of memories.

If any of you know Norm you will know that he is a journalist and writes for the Dominion Post.  He was from the Clarksburg area, a Victory High School graduate, before moving north.  Not only is he an award-winning journalist, but he is also a farmer.

When I was with the Italian festival, Norm showed up one day when our office was located on Second Street and informed me that he was going to just follow me around for the day and do an article on the Festival. It was at our busiest time but I really enjoyed having him there.  He did a great article and If my memory serves me right it was titled Minister of Quality.

After I retired I kept in touch with Norm and we have shared a lot of memories about our Italian heritage and especially about our gardens.  Norm is an avid WVU sports fan and he has written a few books.

But what I am especially thrilled about is his painting. I never dreamed that he had this talent but I am really not surprised.  I only got to see the one rendering but I was really impressed.  I hope that he will someday allow me to have an art showing of his work.  What other talents do you have hidden Norm?

Now that Thanksgiving is over we are headed straight to into the Christmas season. Do not become too hurried, so that you do not enjoy the season. Advent started this Sunday and there is still time to set out an Advent wreath if you have not done it yet.

Plan a Pita Piata baking party with your family, a great tradition.  Remember the recipe is in my cookbook, Arrivederci.  You can get it at Tomaro's Bakery. Just remember not to get too busy that you can't make time to enjoy your family and friends.  You do not have to plan a big party get together. Just go to one of the local restaurants for coffee and catch up.  The important part is being together.

I send condolences to Kathy Hickman and to the Seti family on the passing of Amanda and Bill.  These two individuals played a really important part in my children's lives.  Impressions they made will be with the kids forever.

Make a list and stick to it and be sure to include all your loved ones on it.  I thank each of you for keeping in touch with me and until next week, "Now You Have Heard It Through the Grapevine."
