The Grapevine: Women of Distinction Luncheon and Repurposing your Jack-o'-lanterns

By Rosalyn Queen on November 07, 2017 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Welcome November....and it won't be long before we welcome Thanksgiving. This is a very special holiday when we gather with friends and family and give thanks for all we have, especially for good health.

Last week we had a wonderful Women of Distinction luncheon at the Uptown Event Center. We certainly honored a great group of individuals who really make a difference in our community. Our keynote speaker, Marie Prozioso, delivered a wonderful message to those attending. If you would like to nominate an individual, jot the name down with a brief bio and send it to the PWA. Our next luncheon will be in February in observance of Black Heritage month. Davis Funeral Home continues to be the sponsor of this event.

Another of the highlights of the luncheon was a presentation of a check by Mr. Brumage, the Human Resources Director for Deep Well drilling company. The check represents part of the cost of installing a digital bulletin board at the corner of Washington and Third Streets. The installation of this board is a project of the City of Clarksburg, the PWA, Deep Well and individual donors. The board will use the digital display to announce non-profit events in our area at no charge to the organization. The sign will be operated by the PWA and announcements must be submitted in writing to the PWA five days prior to the event. This is a service being provided to the area by those groups involved in getting the bulletin board purchased and installed.

I do not know if you have noticed that there were a lot of pumpkins used in decorating this year. I want to pass on to you that instead of tossing them away, peel the pumpkin, cut in one inch cubes , toss in the crock pot and cook on high for about twelve hours or until the pumpkin turns to mush. This will be great to use for pies for puddings and for soup. I always like to take the pumpkin, add sugar and a few spices and bake a pumpkin pie without crust. Delicious with a wallop of whip cream.

Remember to observe Veterans Day in some way. State, county and city offices will be closed next Friday, November 10th in celebration.  But Veterans Day is actually occurs on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year.  The city of Clarksburg always hosts a great Veterans parade.  More details coming on that.

Take care, keep in touch and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
