I worked at the Rosebud Plaza Hecks from 1979 to when it closed in 1991. It started out as a "summer" job, but I stayed on there for sooo long because I really enjoyed working there. I remember the "Back to School " booklets that came out in August that were actually like a small paperback book! I must have bagged a million cans of Valvoline motor oil when it was 3 for $1.00. Wow, it's hard to believe. The store was arm robbed in 1979 and I was there. It was at 10 p.m. at night and was really scary! Stan Vance was our manager and he was cool headed and no one got hurt. I hung on there at the store until they closed the store on the final day in 1991. I still miss all my co-workers and customers.

I have great memories as a boy making trips to Heck's in Bridgeport to buy fishing supplies with my Dad. They had a large sporting goods department. My Dad always purchased his hunting/fishing licenses there as well.

What is hard for me to fathom, is how my parents, could afford a gaming console called Intellivision, for me at 194.00 ! Wow. In the early 80s at that. No wonder they hated me.
