City's 3rd Annual Community-Wide Yard Sale Sees over 50 Homes Signed Up: Map, Phone App Available

It’s still a few weeks away, but residents in Bridgeport are already jumping on the annual Community-Wide Yard Sale bandwagon. The highly popular event that draws visitors and locals to a plethora of yard sales already has dozens of individuals signed up for the final map of locations that will be printed out and made available.

According to City Clerk Andrea Kerr, more than 50 households have registered for this year’s August 5 event. While that may seem down from last year, Kerr said the numbers always increase as many residents don’t register and many more add their households to the list that will be updated and made available on the City of Bridgeport Web site.

“This is one of the most popular events and it’s one where I get phone calls on all year long,” said Kerr. “We hope to have another great day for the community and those visiting the community.”

Along with the maps that will be made available for pickup at the Bridgeport Municipal Complex as well as other city venues, there will also be a list of restaurants for those looking to dine. Kerr came up with the list of places to eat last year due to the fact that many visitors make the yard sale a day-long event.

In fact, this year’s Community-Wide Yard Sale runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, residents have the option to start earlier or later or end it earlier or later. Those times, however, are the ones the city is promoting as the official time frame.

There is also something new this year. A week before the yard sale, Kerr said a phone app that can be accessed by clicking HERE will be available. Type in “Bridgeport” a week prior and it should begin showing listings.

“It will actually give you directions to every single house that we have registered,” said Kerr. “We’re using it to help enable the out-of-town visitors to easily and quickly maneuver through the city. It’s actually a good app for anyone into yard sales as I saw quite a few locally that were listed.”
