Hermosilla's Deli Market's Planned New White Oaks Location to Feature Sandwiches, Salads and More

Mention the name Hermosilla in Marion County and chances are good your mind will switch to food. After all, the roots of the name combined with food goes back to right around 1910 when family member Dominica Hermosilla West said Hermosilla’s Market first got going.

“We’ve been around in some capacity for quite a while,” said West.

Whether it was Hermosilla’s Market that was a fixture for decades or the still relatively new Hermosilla’s Deli Market that has become a “must-visit” place for many when on the East Side of Fairmont, the name is synonymous with quality food and products.

And now, that name will be coming to Bridgeport. Barring something unforeseen, Hermosilla’s Deli will have its second location in White Oaks. The plan is for the new 1,400 square foot operation to open its doors during the summer months at the White Oaks Retail Village.

“My dad really kind of wanted to expand and actually looked at the same location probably three or four months before he got sick. He was a little nervous about it because it was a big step. We supported him, but when he got cancer it just halted everything,” said Dominica about her father Dennis, who passed as a result of the disease. “I live in Bridgeport and we talked about Bridgeport and Morgantown and then we considered just how huge the White Oaks area is.

“There is so much potential and the amount of people in that development and in the surrounding area is incredible,” she continued. “My husband works at UHC and they often go to the cafeteria because there aren’t a lot of options nearby to get something quick. We plan to change that for workers and others there and throughout the area.”

After their father’s passing, the family banded together to help their mother Patty. Dominica’s sister, Ali Gross, is managing the Fairmont location and their brother Nick is taking care of many of the other business issues involved.

“Everyone has stepped up,” said Dominica, who will manage the Bridgeport operation. “Now, we’re ready to follow through on what my father started looking at before he passed.”

So what can people expect? According to Hermosilla, exactly the same type of items that has made their Fairmont location a hit – and that Fairmont location is remaining in place.

“We don’t want anyone to think we’re closing up our business in Fairmont. We’re just opening another location,” she said.

The location will feature meat from Troyer, out of the Amish Country in the Sugar Creek area of Ohio, which Hermosilla said is a high quality product. There will be imported olives and plenty of items from Penn-Mac out of Pittsburgh. There will also be the same salad bar you find in Fairmont.

“This is going to be the same offerings and we plan on having family working there. We have family doing the work in Fairmont and the workers we bring on become family,” said West.

According to Dominica, the business roots can be traced back to her grandfather and continued with her father. After the Hermosilla’s Market, grocery store and butcher shop closed, she said that her father Dennis Hermosilla considered many restaurant ventures before settling on a deli. Initially, the thought was to sell a few sandwiches and sell cheese and meat in bulk.

“We actually sell items in bulk, particularly on the weekends and during hunting season, but it kind of flipped as far as what we sell the most of. We sell a lot of sandwiches,” she said.

West said that individuals can order online at the new establishment and even pay for it. During lunch time, or any time, she said that will allow customers to avoid any lines or waiting time.

Ron Stanley, the managing member of High Tech Corridor Development – the group responsible for development of White Oaks – said this is another good addition to the location.

“I know they’re excited about coming here and we’re excited to have them,” said Stanley. “This adds a much-needed component to White Oaks.”
