Motorists heading into downtown Bridgeport that don’t have any time to spare may want to consider an alternate route for the next few days if the weather is good. Work being done along Main Street near 2nd Street and just past the Ford Funeral Home will at times have traffic down to one lane, City Engineer Tom Brown's office confirmed.
Although Bridgeport staff will be out directing traffic, there will be some delays. Heavy equipment will be cutting into the hillside near the funeral home on the eastbound side of Main Street-U.S. Route 50. The work is related to a retaining wall, Brown's office reports.
Although the delays are likely in the minutes, those who are on a tight schedule or are impatient can avoid that section of Bridgeport’s Main Street for the next few days.
The work is part of an ongoing downtown streetscape project. The initial meetings to begin the streetscapes date back to 1999.
Work is completed for today, Wednesday, Aug. 6. Even during work hours, delays were very minimal, as reported by Della's Deli customers. Some said one lane of traffic actually made it easier to get on and off Main Street. No one complained of delays.
