Seasonal Family Fun Key Component of Business Set to Open Just off Hinkle and Deegan Lakes Road

When Tammera and David Faris inherited 600-plus acres of family land, there were a whole lot of things they could have done with it. Considering the property in question is situated off Hinkle and Deegan Lake Road, there’s certainly a chance a financial windfall could have been made.

Instead, Tammera Faris had another idea. And it’s one springing to life today and one that she hopes will be beneficial to children and families from Bridgeport, Harrison County and beyond.

Although it’s not sitting on all 600 acres, today the seasonal business 2 Ps in a Pod will be open to the community. And before we tell you what they offer, a little bit about the name.

“The two ‘Ps’ in question are my two grandchildren, Paxton and Poppy,” Tammera said. “They’re the inspiration behind this and it’s always a pleasure to see them excited about what we’re doing.”

What Tammera Faris is doing is opening a business that will be open this weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. It will then re-open, supplies permitting, on the same hours next weekend prior to Halloween.

“We’re just being a little cautious with the supply and with us just getting started,” said Faris.

The key item of supply are pumpkins. They are of the homegrown variety - the 2 Ps in a Pod Pumpkin Patch variety - and they are a big piece of what individuals will find when venturing to the new business venture.

“We’ll have a lot of unique pumpkins for sale,” she said. “There are a lot of Halloween and fall items that can be purchased.”

The inventory includes the standard pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, pumpkins that are have aqua green tones and melon colors, pie pumpkins, white pumpkins and small pumpkins among multiple other choices. The pumpkin selection doesn’t start and end with the standard jack-o-lantern.

The business will have baked goods from pumpkin muffins, candy corn cookies, a ‘Paxton and Poppy’ Chex mix and a whole lot more. Mums will be available, as will unique metal decors that include many pumpkin-themed items and additional wares.

While some things will be in the elements, most of the acquisitions can be made inside the building on the new business property. And it’s no ordinary building.

On the property that’s about one-quarter of a mile past the Hinkle and Deegan Lakes tennis courts – and on the same side of the road – the Faris’ discovered an old schoolhouse.

“It was hidden by trees and my husband and I decided to renovate it,” said Faris, who praised the work of Gary Steven for his restoration work on the building. “That was one of the things that got us started, but we decided we have all this land and we ended up planting pumpkins. As I saw them growing, the business idea and the name came up.”

Tammera Faris said the fun for children doesn’t just include looking for pumpkins and sweet treats. There will be hay wagon rides, a fire pit, a ‘bounce house,’ and a petting zoo.

“We’ll have a horse, llamas and alpacas and some calves and lambs … It should be a lot of fun for children,” she said.

Already, the business has eight schools in the area signed up for private parties. The total includes pre-schools.

The good news is that when Halloween is over and the business goes off the radar it won’t be going off the books. Instead, Faris said she’ll be hosting a Christmas extravaganza with Christmas-themed activities and wares that will include letting local craft aficionados to set up inside the school house. She said there will be an Easter-themed event as well.

For information on the business, booking parties or to discuss, the future individuals can contact Tammera Faris at 304-669-5876. Signs should be up by today showing directions and the location of the business as she said things – as late as Wednesday – were still a work in progress.

“This is a business for kids and parents,” said Faris. “It’s about family and fun will be the key.”
