Chanticleer Children's Chorus: Robert C. Byrd High School, Clarksburg

Chanticleer Children’s Chorus of West Virginia announces its spring concert We Sing a World of Hope and Wonder with performances Saturday May 3 at Wesley Chapel in Buckhannon and Sunday May 4 at the Robert C. Byrd High School Theater in Clarksburg. Both performances are at 4 pm. Hope and Wonder is centered on the intercultural influence of the musical selections. INSERT SARAH QUOTE ON CHANTICLEER MISSION OF ENGULFING CHILDREN IN MULTIPLE CULTURES THROUGH ARTISTIC PERFORMANCE. Four continents and multiple nations are represented by the selections. The Preparatory & Training Ensembles comprising preschoolers to fourth graders will lead the performance with a collection of folk songs. These include Kookaburra from Australia, Rise to Greet the Sun from China and Loch Lomond from Scotland. Jamaica and Finland are also included in the earlier performance. The fifth grade to senior student chamber ensemble will continue the entertainment. The older group will carry on in the vein of world cultures with an Israeli song Ba’sha’nah, the Irish tunes Carrickfergus and Riversong and Shawnee Chief Tecumseh’s prayer Give Thanks. Additionally, the older group will look to poetry for inspiration in e e cummings’ work I Thank You God and Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Junior’s High Flight. The two halves of the choir will join in a final number that corresponds with the greater theme of the concert Give Us Hope. INSERT A QUOTE ABOUT THE THANKFUL THEME OR ANY OTHER TYING THESE SELECTIONS TOGETHER. Chanticleer has grown from an original 30 singers in Harrison County in 1991 to 100 choristers across eight counties. The group has promoted its cultural mission in West Virginia with performances in company with the West Virginia University African Percussion Ensemble, the Larry Parsons Chorale, Act 2 Theater Company and on West Virginia Public Radio. In keeping with their task the choir has toured extensively in Europe performing at cathedrals in Scotland and Italy, forums in Germany and Austria and in the company of other childrens’ choruses from the Czech Republic. In 2015 Chanticleer will return to Eastern Europe this time adding Poland to their itinerary. Tickets are available at the door or by calling 304.624.7282. Adults tickets are $8. Student admission is $4. Doors open thirty minutes prior to performance.
