STD and Pregnancy Prevention Meeting for Parents of 9th Graders
In the month of March, freshmen in Harrison County, will be given the opportunity to attend a program on Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention offered by the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Initiative through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The curriculum in this program will promote the institute of family, enhance character development, and teach abstinence as a standard. The subject matter includes information on reproduction, sexually transmitted diseases and teenage pregnancy. This is an abstinence based program; however, contraceptives will be discussed, but not distributed. Carrie Linn, Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Specialist for West Virginia State Department will be presenting this program to the 9th grade students of Harrison County.
Please watch for information going home regarding the date the program will be presented at your child’s school. Letters will go home including an opt-out form for parents who do not wish for their child to participate. A general parent meeting will be held on February 20 at the Alternative Learning Center at 6:30 for parents who wish to discuss the program or have questions regarding discussing this delicate topic at home.
