Bridgeport, WV – The Bridgeport Public Library will host a technology trainer focusing on eBook downloading and use on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and all are welcome to attend this event! Bridgeport Public Library card holders have access to nearly 40,000 downloadable eBooks and audiobooks thanks to the library’s membership in the West Virginia DELI. Patrons interested in this service and have questions are encouraged to attend and bring along their mobile device!

This event is made possible thanks to the West Virginia Technical Assistance Broadband Grant Program. If you have questions about this program, please contact the Technology Trainers, Cheryl Cohen or Meredith Hankins, at chpltechtrainer@gmail.com. About the West Virginia Technical Assistance Broadband Grant Program The intent of the Technical Assistance Grant Program is to fund broadband-related train-the-trainer programs, education, and online application development. A total of $677,625 in grant funds, in amounts between $5,000 to $30,000, was awarded in 2012 in a first round of competitive awards. A second round of competitive awards totaling $842,213 was awarded early in 2014. The goal of the Technical Assistance Grant Program is to enable education and application development on broadband services and internet applications that are currently available, or due to become available, as broadband infrastructure is installed across the state. Source: http://www.wvgs.wvnet.edu/bb/grants.html About the Technology Trainers Cheryl Cohen just returned to her home state after living in Baltimore, Maryland, for 35 years. She is a retired Baltimore County, Maryland, educator where she spent her professional career as an English teacher and a library media specialist. She holds an MA in English Education from WVU and an MS in Instructional Technology from Towson (MD) University. As the head library media specialist in a large urban high school, she was part of technology team that made decisions about the use of technology in the school, as well as instructing both students and faculty on its use. She has an affinity for tech gadgets and a love for learning about the newest thing. Meredith Hankins is a newcomer to West Virginia after moving here three years ago from the state of Virginia. She is a 2010 graduate from Hollins University, where she received a BA in English. In the course of her college career, she worked for the Tazewell County, Virginia Public Library system where she assisted with public reading programs and circulation. It was there that she was introduced to Overdrive, as the library had just begun to establish an audiobook collection (this was before the time of eBooks). After graduation, Hankins taught middle and high school English in Virginia. Most recently, she worked as an independent contractor serving Consol Energy's three northern West Virginia coal mines in their land department. She is an enthusiastic and experienced eReader user.
