Bridgeport Public Library : National Volunteer Week!

Bridgeport, WV – The Bridgeport Public Library is inviting community members to volunteer for special projects in April as a part of National Volunteer Week! The book sale is the biggest library event requiring volunteer assistance and all are invited to set up for the sale, work the sale checkout table, and/or put unsold materials back into storage. All of these activities only require two hours of volunteer time and the helping hand is much appreciated! Interested volunteers are invited to register for tasks at the library’s front desk.

The library is also launching its own Adopt-A-Shelf program! Volunteers interested in Adopting-A-Shelf simply register at the library’s front desk and care for their shelf throughout the year. Shelf care is minimal and only requires the volunteer to maintain their shelf’s books’ Dewey Decimal and alphabetical order and keep the shelf free of dust and debris. Volunteers are asked to care for their shelf once a month. Volunteers are encouraged to adopt a shelf housing books by their favorite author and take more than one shelf into their care! For more information on the Adopt-A-Shelf program, please stop by the library’s front desk. Volunteers interested in working with children are encouraged to register to assist with Summer Reading 2014! Amy Eakle, Children’s Librarian, will contact volunteers this summer when help is needed for Summer Reading programs. Registration for Summer Reading volunteers is also located at the library’s front desk. About National Volunteer Week National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate people doing extraordinary things through service. Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week focuses national attention on the impact and power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our civic leadership. The week draws the support and endorsement of the president and Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and community groups across the country.
