By Jeff Toquinto on November 13, 2025

Fresh of the team’s Class AAA Region II victory, Bridgeport High School’s cheerleading squad had another strong showing last night.

The Indians finished as the runner-up in the annual Big 10 Conference Championship event. The competition was held at Preston High School.
Lincoln, who competes in Class AA, finished as the conference champion. Robert C. Byrd, who qualified in Region II in Class AAA for next week’s state championship event was third.

The Cougars won on the judges’ scorecards with a score of 91.46. The Indians were just off the mark with a score of 90.66. The Eagles came in with a score of 83.35. Eleven squads competed in the competition.

Bridgeport's next competition is the most important one. BHS will be looking to win the Class AAA state cheer championship as the state competition will take place in Charleston this coming Wednesday, Nov. 19m at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

Members of this year’s team include a trio of seniors and four juniors. The seniors are Nhya Knepper, Bailey Root, and Lilly Wolfe. This year’s juniors are Gabby Horne, Ansley Leach, Camille Miller, and Tayla Pitsenbarger.

Sophomores for the 2025-26 year are Scarlett Edgell and Daphne Taylor with the freshman class being the largest with five members. First-year cheerleaders include Ashlynn Miller, Liam Paulsen, Skyla Reider, Nina Spatafore, and Addy Willis.
