Former BHS, Current Fairmont State Standout Emily Riggs Picks Up Two More Honors

Fairmont State softball sophomore and former Bridgeport High School all-stater Emily Riggs has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Atlantic First Team as announced today. Riggs was also announced to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Second Team. Riggs, a 5-foot-6 third baseman was named to the All-MEC First Team prior to the MEC Tournament and leads the Falcons in batting average (.410), hits (59), doubles (12), triples (2), home runs (10), RBIs (45), and walks (20) through 46 games. Riggs also leads the team in slugging percentage of .729 and an on-base percentage of .482.
 
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted on the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2022 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
 
Conference players and pitchers of the year from member institutions (must be nominated by member head coach and receive votes) are added to the second team if they were not already voted to an All-Region squad. The 2022 NFCA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 25.
