Readers are in for a very tempting spring where books are concerned. This is one of the side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Publishers last spring and fall started to postpone new books, and the result is a glut of new titles.

“The Five Wounds” is a debut novel by Kirstin Valdez Quade about a year in the life of a New Mexico family starting with an unwelcome discovery for the patriarch of the Padilla family that his 15-year-old daughter is pregnant. This book has been garnering rave reviews.
“Of Women and Salt” by Gabriela Garcia is another debut novel that is being singled out for critical praise. It follows five generations of Cuban women starting in the 19th-century cigar factories up to modern-day in Miami.

Sally Hepworth returns with “The Good Sister” about two sisters who share a secret that now years later is ripping the two apart. (Due out in April.) “When the Stars Go Dark” by Paula McLain is a departure for the popular author if historical fiction such as “The Paris Wife” and “Circling the Sun” as she moves into thriller territory with this story about a missing persons detective back home in Mendocino whose skills are needed when a girl goes missing. (Also, due out in April.)

Romance writer Emily Henry offers her latest, “People We Meet on Vacation” about Poppy and Alex who are best friends heading for love, or major break-up. (Due out in mid-April) And popular author Christina Lauren investigates whether science can be used to find your one true love in “The Soulmate Equation.” (Due out in May.)

Other new books to looks for this spring are: “The Rose Code” by Kate Quinn, “Act Your Age, Eve Brown,” by Talia Hibbert, “The Dictionary of Lost Words,” by Pip Williams, “Dial A for Aunties,” by Jesse Q. Sutanto, “Whereabouts” by Jhumpa Lahiri, “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir, “One Last Stop” by Casey McQuiston, and “Malibu Rising” by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
