City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on January 26, 2020 from City Faces via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This week's City Face is a lifelong Bridgeport resident, new mom and pediatric nurse practitioner. Meet Katherine Grisso Owens.

Tell me about your family.

I am married. My husband’s name is Greg and we have been married for two years.

On October 27, 2019 we welcomed our little boy, Dominick Vincent, into our family. He is now two months old and has brought so much joy to our lives.

My parents also live in Bridgeport. My mom, Jan Grisso, is a teacher at Bridgeport Middle School and the coach of the Bridgeport High School swim team. My dad, David Grisso, is a retired banker.

I have two older siblings. My sister, Christina Woods, and her husband Josh live in Parkersburg, WV with their children, Grayer, Isabella, and Parker. My brother, Andrew Grisso, and his wife Sarah live in Frederick, MD with their daughter Caroline.

My in-laws, Rod and Barbara Owens, also reside in Bridgeport.

I recently returned back to work after my maternity leave and I am so excited to have my dad and in-laws watching my son while I am at work.
What about pets?

I have one dog and his name is Jax. Jax, a rescue, is a shih tzu-poodle mix. He was a college graduation present from Greg. He is very very spoiled and is Dominick’s big brother!

Where do you work and what do you do there?

I am a nurse practitioner at Pediatric Associates in Bridgeport. I have been working with the practice since March of last year. I absolutely love working with the pediatric population and excited that I am now able to provide advanced care as a nurse practitioner.  It has been very rewarding to be able to provide health care in my hometown.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?

Well if you ask my husband…he would say I love shopping (he isn’t wrong!!). I also enjoy fishing, decorating my home and spending time with my family and friends.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?

I love walking my dog at Compton Park. I think it is a small and quaint community park. I am excited for the weather to warm up so I can take Dominick on stroller rides at the park.
What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?

Bridgeport has a true sense of community and is very supportive of its residences. It is the best community to raise a family. It has excellent schools, sporting programs, and family oriented public events. I value that I was able to grow up here and I am excited to raise my children in this community.

The community is always looking to create opportunities and grow. I am really looking forward to the new recreational center.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...

My husband and I got married at All Saints Catholic Church. This was very special to us because this is the church we grew up in and attended regularly with our families.

I am also a former Bridgeport High School cheerleader and have several great memories of cheering on the Indians.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?

The Greenbrier Resort is beautiful and always such a relaxing time. I also enjoy boating with friends at Tygart Lake.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?

Disney World! I have been several times because both my sister and brother worked there and it is also where Greg proposed to me in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom.

What are some of your favorite things? Food/restaurant? Favorite color? Music genre/artist?

Food—Sushi
Restaurant—Muriales
Color— Hot pink and floral prints
Music genre/ artist—Country; Luke Bryan

What is your best childhood memory?

Spending summer days swimming at the Bridgeport City Pool, family trips to Myrtle Beach, and making memories with my best friends that I still have today.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
I married my high school sweetheart who also was a Bridgeport High School grad.
